Heart of abruzzo by bike

In the center of Italy,
halfway between Rome and Pescara,
in the heart of Abruzzo, there is a land yet to be discovered.

The Celestinian Abbey and the Hermitage of Sant'Onofrio al Morrone

The properties, both within5km from the center of Sulmona in Badia, are connectedwith Pietro Angelerio, Benedictine monk founder of the Celestinian order, who became Pope under the name of Celestine V. It was him who began the construction of the Abbey, which lasted over the centuries until it reached its present appearance, consisting of a monumental churchand an impressive monastery divided into five internal courtyards: three major and two minor ones. The facility with its 16,600 square meters is now the largest monastery complex in central Italy. Not far away, nestled in Mount Morrone, we find the hermitage where Peter spent the years before his investiture, and which the friar wanted to dedicate to the hermit Sant'Onofrio. From the property, which can be reached after a short walk, you can enjoy a splendid view over the Peligna Valley. A remarkable place of great importance for the area, which today becomes the center of the Cuored'Abruzzo cycling route network too.
